The Scobey Spartans were on their way to an easy win after scoring on three of their first four possessions and taking an 18-0 lead late in the initial quarter during their Saturday, September 4, conference-opener against the Circle Wildcats.

Not!

Well, at least the Spartans were in total control by halftime while ahead 26-6, right?

Not even close!

About the only time this breed of cat was in the bag and finally in the river was when Austin Hagan plunged over the goal line with five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Up until then the Wildcats scratched and

Netters Top Savage, Look To Do Same Against Panthers

Now that the Scobey girls’ volleyball team has taken care of the Savage Warriors — all seven of them on Saturday night’s active roster by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 — the question now is: can the Spartans take care of the Saco-Hinsdale Panthers?

If last season’s scores against the Panthers are any indication, it could be quite the battle Friday, September 10, in Saco when the Spartans hit town.

In the 2009 regular season the Panthers defeated the Spartans in Scobey September 11 25-22, 25-21, 12-25, 25-18. On October 24 in Saco the Spartans were the winners by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-11.

In the 2009 District 3C Tournament in Scobey the Panthers won 23-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-18 in the second round. In the first championship match the Spartans won 25-23, 11-25, 25-19, 13-25, 15-12 to force a second championship, where the Panthers captured the title with 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 15-12 scores. Saco-Hinsdale went on to place fourth in the East C Divisional Tournament while Scobey was out in three matches.
