After Roosevelt County Sheriff Freedom Crawford received information on New Year’s Eve regarding a red Suburban-like vehicle that was traveling back to the Fort Peck Reservation from Minnesota with a substantial amount of marijuana, the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department issued an alert to North Dakota and eastern Montana law enforcement to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The caller also identified one of the occupants in the vehicle. The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office later received a call from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office that one of their deputies had spotted the vehicle, a red 2000 Chevrolet Yukon, at a gas station in Sidney. The deputy followed the vehicle until it was stopped two to three miles south of Culbertson by Roosevelt County deputies and a Montana Highway Patrol officer. The occupants were identified and a Roosevelt County drug canine was ran around the exterior of the vehicle. The canine alerted, indicating the presence of narcotics. The vehicle was seized and secured and the occupants were released. On Jan. 4, a search warrant was obtained and the vehicle was searched by Roosevelt County Deputies Tim Lingle and Dan McKee and detention officer Ronnie Kemp. The search found two pounds 11.9 ounces of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $11,000. The case has been handed over to the Roosevelt County Attorney for consideration of charges.
