Teams from Billings Central, Miles City, Colstrip, Glendive, Sidney, Hardin, Huntley Project, Laurel, Winnett, Terry, St. Labre, Lodge Grass, Glasgow, Frazer, Pretty Eagle and Wolf Point competed in the Cowboy Invitational Cross Country meet Saturday, Oct. 6, in Miles City.
Teams braved temperatures in the low 40s to run in one of the final meets of the season as they wind down the 2012 cross country season.
Wolves’ varsity runner Mariah Weeks was the lone runner representing the Lady Wolves in the meet. The two sport star ran a season best 23:19 to place eighth in the girls’ three-mile race. Weeks has been busy splitting her time between volleyball and cross country this fall.
Wolves’ varsity runner Garrett Horsmon was also the lone varsity boy to compete in his race, completing the course in 18:59 — his second fastest time of the season — to place sixth overall.
In the junior high boys’ race, Trey Fourstar ran a season best 9:38 to place 21st in a field of 75 runners. Lonnie Shield of Hardin won the 1.5-mile race in 8:37.
Wolf Point's James Poitra placed 58th with a time of 11:39 while Caleb Blount finished in 69th place with a time of 12:51. Blount lowered his personal best time by seven seconds in the race.
Jerek Summers placed 72nd with a time of 13:13 which was a considerable improvement in his personal best by 19 seconds.
In the junior high girls’ race, Sierra Summers placed second in a field of 78 runners. She completed the 1.5-mile course in 9:18 which lowered her personal best by two seconds. Finishing in first-place was Jasynine Cooper of Hardin in 9:06.
Cyreena Standing ran a season best time of 11:08 to finish in 44th place in a talented field. Alex Sutton also ran a personal best of 15:16 lowering her best time by nearly 40 seconds.
The Wolves’ runners will host a junior high meet at the Wolf Point Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 11, with area teams invited.
On Saturday, Oct. 13, the junior high and varsity runners will compete in the Plentywood Wildcat invitational cross country meet.
The state meet for the varsity runners will be held in Helena on Oct. 20.
Everyone has been working hard in practice with most of our runners showing improvement in their personal best times at the right time of the season.
