Saturday night, Jan. 11, the Wolf Point Wolves basketball teams hosted the Spartans from Baker. And what games they were.
Wolf Point had the lead at the end of the first period and a one-point lead going into halftime.
The third period ended deadlocked at 30. And so it went until the clock showed less than a second on the clock. On the third or fourth blind toss at the basket, the Spartans lobbed one at the buzzer — and it fell through the net. The Spartans claimed the game, 42-40.
High scorers for the Wolves were Markell Blount, eight; Hayden Hanks, eight; and Tukker Toavs, seven.
High scorers for the Spartans were Jordan Walker, 17; Brady Varner, seven; and Jeff Fisher, six.
The Wolves are now 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
The junior varsity team also lost a heartbreaker. The JV Wolves trailed most of the game, but closed the gap to within one. Unfortunately, the final buzzer ended the rally and they lost the game, 28-29.
Both JV and varsity are back in action Friday, Jan. 17, along with the C squad. when they host the Harlem Wildcats. The C squad plays at 1:30 p.m, JV; 4:30 p.m. and the varsity, 7:30 p.m.
