Saturday night, Jan. 4, Wolf Point and Poplar squared off on the basketball court with both teams looking for their first win of the season. Turns out, it was quite a battle on the court.
Wolf Point started the game with a vengeance owning a lead of 20-8 by the end of the first period. A fired-up Indian team took the court and owned the lead at halftime, 34-29.
The third period was up for grabs until the last couple of minutes when the Wolves got their game back Poplar managed to rule the boards claiming the majority of rebounds at both ends. TJ Tuttle and Devin Sadler owned the rebounds for much of the night.
During the last period, with a tiring Indian team, the Wolves stepped up on both offense and defense and held a lead that gave them a win of 58-46.
High scorer for Wolf Point was Tukker Toavs with 20 points. He was followed by Dalton Hafner and Hayden Hanks with 7 and 8 points respectively.
High scorer for Poplar was Tuttle with 19. He was followed by Myltin Bighorn with 9 and Alex Lone Bear with 6.
The Wolves are now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference. They will host Glendive Jan. 11, who are undefeated.
The Indians are now 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference. They will travel to Glasgow Jan. 18.
