Nelson Ray Bird, 60, of Wolf Point, died Wednesday, Sept., 26, 2012.
He was born on March 2, 1952, to Stephen Bird Sr. and Agnes Ownspipe Bird. The family moved back to North Dakota when he was 10 years old. He resided in North Dakota until 1980, when his father (Stephen Bird) died.
He got his education in Grafton, N.D., and dropped out of school when he reached the eighth-grade.
He liked to be outdoors so he mostly worked on farms and ranches and automobiles, when he stayed with his brother Amos.
His biggest enjoyment was fishing. He could sit by the river day and night. He was a very generous person, always smiling and willing to help whenever he could. He was the type of person who could be serious or he could be a clown.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor Bird and Jacob Bird; four sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Priscilla B. Day, Lena Spotted Wolf and Christine Bird.
He is survived by his brothers, Amos Cloud of Poplar, Steve Bird Jr. of Tuba City, Ariz.; his sisters, Serena Bird of Wolf Point, Corlene Kraus of Glendive and Carolyne Henry of Savage; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
His funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Cultural Center in Poplar. Interment was at the Riverside Cemetery in Riverside. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point was entrusted with the arrangements.
