Almeda Belle Looking, “Windy Woman,” 76, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at the Billings Clinic.
She was born July 28, 1936, in Poplar to Jeanette Looking and Clifford Looking Sr. Her father was a pipe carrier that served the Assiniboine people in ceremonies.
She attended and graduated from Flandreau High School.
She married Joseph Escarcega Jr. and to this union, four children were born, Joel, Janet, Toni and Dana.
She was an active member of the Southside Assembly of God church.
She spoke Nakona and enjoyed attending powwows and ceremonies as well as spending time with her family and friends.
She loved to write letters and post cards to family and friends, read and recite bible verses, visiting with people and playing Bingo.
She brightened everyone’s day with her great sense of humor and personality.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dana Escarcega; and siblings, Bessie (Looking) RedDog, Clifford Looking Jr., Benjamin Looking, Nellie Looking, Vincent Looking and Merida Baptiste.
She is survived by her children, Joel Escarcega of California, and Janet Escarcega and Toni Escarcega, both of Wolf Point; sisters, Zola Baptiste and Alameda (Baptiste) Rocha; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point was entrusted with the arrangements.
