James E. Smith, 78, of Burien, Wash., passed away from this life to eternal life Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.
Jim will be remembered as a loving father, husband and friend. Jim was born on March 25, 1935, in Poplar, Mont., to Finley and Matilda [Martell] Smith.
Jim loved the Montana of his youth and moved to the Seattle, Wash., area around 1945.
Jim attended Showalter Grade School and graduated in 1955 from Foster High School in Tukwila, Wash.
Jim worked for Monsanto Chemical Company for 35 years where he made many enduring friendships.
Jim married Celestine O’Hogan in 1957 and they had four children and settled in Seattle, Wash. They later divorced in 1974.
Jim and Judy Seubert married in 1990 and have been married for 23 years.
Jim loved cooking, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, playing cards and traveling with Judy.
In his later years, Jim struggled with diabetes and heart failure. Still, he was strong up to the end of his life — never wanting to leave his loved ones. Jim passed away peacefully.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, and her children Tamara and Tim Seubert. His four children include Tami A. Smith, Carla T. Proffitt, James F. Smith and Scott J. Smith. Additionally, his seven grandchildren are Cori and Christopher Proffitt, Jeffrey Dawson, Shanacey Gillson, Sonny and Sean Smith, and Taylor Smith. Jim will be remembered by his extended family far and wide.
James leaves behind an amazing legacy of his smile, laughter, love of the outdoors and his deep love and affection for his family and friends. His enduring memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved and cared for him.
