Michael Roy

Our brother Michael Bill “Mike” Roy, age 63, of Harrison, Mo., passed away from cancer on Sept. 6, 2012.
Funeral services were on Sept. 10 at the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., with internment alongside his parents in Brushy Knob Cemetery, Douglas County, Mo.
Mike, the seventh of eight children, was born to Lawrence and Lizetta Roy on Aug. 13, 1949, in Norwood, Mo.
In Mike’s early years, his family lived where the oilfield work took them. He attended school in Baker, Mont., moving to Wolf Point, Mont., when he was a sophomore in high school and moving as a senior and graduating from Louisville, Neb.
While living in Wolf Point, Mike became fast friends with Jimmy Kurokawa’s family when he walked in the back door of the family cafe and Jimmy told him to help himself. Mike remained a lifelong friend of the Kurokawas, especially Donnie, and they remained very close friends the remainder of Mike’s life. Donnie could get a laugh out of Mike when nobody else could.
After graduation, he joined the Army. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Mike loved the Hi-Line of Montana and looked forward to his many hunting trips with his brothers Darrel and Elmer and his good friend Donnie. They always had a lot of fun and laughter together. Mike was always hoping to shoot the big one, which he did last fall while on a hunting trip along the Hi-Line, but now we know he is watching over the beautiful land and wheat fields with the best seat in heaven along side his parents and brother Darrel.
Mike never came to Wolf Point without visiting his good friends Frank and Alice Hanel. The Hanel family held a very special place in Mike’s heart.
Mike worked for the United States Postal Service in Kansas City, Mo., until his retirement.
Anyone who knew our brother knew of his total love and dedication to his Lord Jesus Christ. He spent the last 18 years as our mom’s caregiver and he would spend countless hours reading scripture and gospel to her. Mike was devoted member of the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Mike never had any children of his own, but the love he showed to all his nieces and nephews was so very special. They will all remember him with so much love.
Mike is survived by his brothers, Harold Roy of Las Vegas, Nev., James “Elmer” Roy of Lawton, Okla., and Jerry and Mary Ann Roy of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Vivian Gerke of Columbus, Mont., Beulah Peterson of Wolf Point, Mont., and Sue and John Ady of San Diego, Calid.; and sister-in-law, Katherine Roy of Wolf Point, Mont.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lizette Roy; his brother, Darrel Roy; brother-in-laws, Dean Gerke and Gale “Pete” Peterson; and sister-in-law, Clara Roy.
