Mary Jane Crain, 94, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, 2013, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood.
She was born July 6, 1919, to Dr. Fred L. and Maud Edith Darland in Froid. She received her education in Froid, graduated from Froid High School, and received her bachelor of science in education from Minot State College. Choosing education over a promising vocal career, she taught 43 years in various places: Frazer, Big Timber, Helena, Missoula and Froid, where she spent the majority of her career.
She married Charles Crain and they had three children. She was a lifelong member of the Froid Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and her brother, Tom Darland.
She is survived by two sons, Bruce Crain of Froid and Robert Crain of Plentywood; a daughter, Susan Strutzel of Anaconda; a sister, Betty
Friesen of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 21, with Pastor Jan Martin officiating at Froid Lutheran Church. Interment was in Kvile Cemetery, north of Froid.
