Marian E. Guenther, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home in Plentywood.
The daughter of Hans and Grace (Oakes) Oyen, she was born Dec. 14, 1927, at the family farm in Barr Butte Township, N.D., near Grenora. She briefly attended a country school near the farm and finished grade school in Hanks, N.D., where she graduated from high school. She acquired a teaching certificate and taught one year at the West Writing Rock School. Her next year of teaching was at a school south of Dagmar; in that year she met Donald Guenther. They were married June 16, 1948, in Hanks.
She baked wonderful coffee bread and her gingersnap cookies were a favorite of many family memories and friends. She also enjoyed singing and reading.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gale, Frankie and Bud; and sister, Beatrice Selby.
She is survived by her husband, Donald, of Plentywood; children, Kevin of Grenora, Glenn of Fort Peck, Keith of Glasgow, Donelle Miller of Bar Nunn, Wyo., Randy of Medicine Lake and Russell of Florence; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Oyen and Dorothy Peterson, both of Williston, N.D.; and brothers Herbert Oyen, Kenneth Oyen, both of Williston, and Gerry Oyen of Pueblo, Colo.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Sheridan County Civic Center in Plentywood. Interment of cremated remains will be on the family farm in the Dagmar community.
