Joseph Daniel (Day Star) Johnston, “Ki-si-kah-w Ah-cha-ko-s,” 25, died Aug. 11, 2013, in Billings.
Joseph “Diddums” was born on June 28, 1988, to Phillip Johnston and Clara Raining Bird in Wolf Point. He grew up in Frazer and Wolf Point, graduated from the Swan Valley Youth Academy near Missoula and graduated from Frazer High School in 2007.
He loved playing basketball and being with his family and friends.
He was a star athlete starting in the eighth-grade. His junior year, he went to the state 2B basketball tournament when he played for the Wolf Point Wolves. His senior year, he attended school in Frazer where he was on the starting five for the Frazer Bearcubs and they went to the divisional 3C tournament.
In 2008, he became a father with his high school sweetheart, Alexine “Allie” Antone, to their son, Kolbi Daniel Johnston. They spent endless hours gaming it up. After the birth of Kolbi, they moved to Billings.
He was a jokester and always had a smile on his face. He had various jobs starting from the Holiday Inn to Billings Cement, where he found a passion for concrete. He loved his job. His favorite game was Call of Duty.
He is survived by his son, Kolbi Daniel, and significant other, Alexine Antone, of Billings; his father, Phillip Johnston of Frazer; mother, Clara Raining Bird of Billings; brothers, Wayne Johnston, Claine Johnston, and Parker Johnston, all of Wolf Point and Frazer; and sisters, Lacey and Secret Johnston of Billings.
A vigil service was held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Oswego Community Hall in Oswego. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m. at the Oswego Community Hall. Burial will be in the Oswego Presbyterian Cemetery.
