Winter storm Brutus brought not only snow and bad roads but tragedy to the area this weekend.
A Wolf Point native and her two daughters were in a rollover car accident Friday morning, Nov. 9, near Wibaux.
The driver, Marie “Toni” Jansen survived while her two daughters, Miranda Irene Jansen, 19, and Desiree Dawn Christine Jansen, 21, both died according.
The three were travelling from Billings to a wedding in North Dakota on Interstate 94 in a GMC Envoy when Toni lost control of the vehicle due to the road conditions.
She was wearing her seatbelt while Miranda and Desiree were not and were both ejected from the vehicle. Desiree died on scene and Miranda later died in the hospital.
The Gazette reported Miranda was transported to Bismarck, N.D., from Dickinson, N.D., but family members confirmed she was not in stable enough condition, so she remained in Dickinson where she was surrounded by family members before her death.
The family said Miranda was eight months pregnant and planned to name her daughter Alora Dawn Marie Jansen. Desiree was also pregnant and due several months from now and had yet to pick out a name.
The Cody and Jansen families plan to hold the young women’s funerals on Friday and said any and all donations would be appreciated in their time of need. Those who would like to offer assistance can send donations to the Jansen Family Memorial at Wells Fargo Bank, 175 N. 27th St. Billings, Mt. 59101.
