The City of Wolf Point will begin handing out citations for Nuisance Vegitation, starting next week.
Property owners whose front yard, back yard, boulevard or alley that have weeds that exceed a height of 8 inches or more, will be receiving a notice.
Once they receive the notice, property owners will have five days to remove the vegetation.
The Wolf Point Fire Department urges property owners to reduce the fire hazard and protect their property by removing the weeds that occupy their land. An excessive amount of weeds can also harbor rats or other vermin.
Failure to remove the weeds may cause the city to remove them, in which case they will charge the cost to the property owner. There will also be an administration fee equal to 10 percent of the cost, as well as a penalty of $25.
Wolf Point city ordinance 5-6-1 defines nuisance vegetation as “All weeds, grass and other wild and uncared for vegetation on premises located within the city are hereby declared and determined to be nuisance vegetation.”
General penalties for violating city ordinance are a fine not to exceed $500 or imprisonment not to exceed six months or both, as set by city ordinance 1-4-1(A).
