A small crowd gathered for a celebration and lunch at the Culbertson School gym and dining room Monday, May 26, to honor veterans from all branches of the military.
Gy Salvevold played the service hymns and marches on the piano while veterans stood for their branch of service.
Commander Thomas Mann led the ceremony with Acting Post Chaplain Gary Johnston leading the prayer.
Guest speaker and veteran of Desert Storm and Afghanistan Brian Fordyce gave the Memorial Day address and shared why we celebrate Memorial Day.
The message was, not only to honor the veterans who served in the armed forces from years gone by, but for those who serve today and tomorrow, for the families that sacrifice just as much to support the troops and to the Americans standing beside the soldiers in their daily activities.
“The Poppy of Sacrifice” was presented by Louise Cooper and Diane Hampton of Auxiliary Unit 81.
Taps was performed by Tristan Sun Rhodes to help close out the ceremony as the American Legion Post No. 81 retired the colors.
