County Gets Break On Communications Tower Lease

The Roosevelt County Local Emergency Planning Committee was informed that the Roosevelt County Commissioners have signed a 20-year lease with the owners of the land where the communications tower is located.
Making the announcement during the monthly LEPC meeting held in Culbertson Tuesday, March 11, Disaster and Emergency Service coordinator Dan Sietsema said the price for the lease was lower than originally expected.
Sietsema also distributed new safety requirements that the Department of Transportation will be enforcing on oil trains. This was prompted by the train derailment in December near Casselton, N.D. The investigation into that derailment determined that fracking oil is much more volatile than regular oil.
Sietsema also announced that there will be railroad haz-mat training given in Glasgow April 26 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Sietsema received the EMPG Grant notice. He is seeking requests for funding.
The next meeting of the LEPC will also be held in Culbertson April 8. Weather Spotter Training will be held at Culbertson High School April 8, as well.
