Eleven Culbertson High School seniors will embark on a journey April 13, that for some of them will be a first experience flying and a first visit to the Eastern Seaboard.
CHS teacher Jeri Gustafson takes seniors on a trip somewhere every spring during the week prior to Easter. The trips are arranged by Explore America that is part of Education First, which is associated with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
“We chose to do an Eastern Seaboard Tour this year,” Gustafson said. “The seniors work for it or their parents pay for it.”
The Culbertson students will fly from Minot, N.D., to Washington, D.C. There they will combine with a high school group from Shelby for a bus tour from Washington to Boston that will include historical and tourist sights in Washington, Philadelphia, New York and Boston, and plays in New York and Boston. The tour will include stops in Salem and Plymouth, Mass. The students will fly from Boston on their way home.
“It’s highly educational. It’s go, go, go all the way along the line. A lot of the kids have never flown before so they will learn how to navigate the airports,” Gustafson said.
